Emptiness

emptiness

We drove through the winding Himalayan roads after sunset, still an hour from our destination. The roads were nearly empty. Occasionally a truck would labour past us. The last bits of colour were leaching out of the sky. I stopped to take a photo of this last light. Then I saw far below us, at the turn of a road, a truck coming into view with its headlights on. I thought it was just the right note to complete this picture of the immensity of the mountains.

It’s also probably an appropriate entry for Perelincolors’ photo challenge for the month: it asks us to be generous with empty space. That’s easy up in the mountains.

  1. Sorry for stopping by so late, we were away for a long weekend in Spain. To me your picture transports at the same time a sense of beauty and serenity but also inspires a fair bit of respect for the way that is still ahead in the mountains and in the darkness. When we drove through the Himalaya, I surely wouldn’t have liked to do the trip in the dark!!
