The word Shama means a burning lamp, and is a trope in Urdu poetry for love and hope. In this block of flats in the middle of Mumbai’s Bhendi Bazaar area, there are dreams of transformation. In the last twenty years of economic growth, many dreams came true. Now, things are slower and harder, but you can see the striving in this wall of one-room flats.

I travel on work. When that gets too tiring then I relax by travelling for holidays. The holidays are pretty hectic, so I need to unwind by getting back home. But that means work.
