Cloud Gate, sculpture by Anish Kapoor, Chicago

Let’s go walk in the park, that’s such an ordinary thing to do, especially if it is a sunny day in winter. The only slightly unusual thing is that the piece of sculpture in the park is an enormous bean-shaped reflecting piece of metal. It is Chicago’s Millennium Park, and the sculpture is a piece by Anish Kapoor called the Cloud Gate. I loved the reflection of the sun on it, and the odd shape of the shadow below it. There is one difficult thing about photographing mirrors: how do you keep yourself out of the picture?

I travel on work. When that gets too tiring then I relax by travelling for holidays. The holidays are pretty hectic, so I need to unwind by getting back home. But that means work.

  1. Yes, it’s tough to photograph a mirror without getting the photographer in the image. It’s similar to the observer effect in physics.

In physics, the term observer effect refers to changes that the act of observation will make on a phenomenon being observed.
